Function

The Zhengyangmen Gate is the southern gate of the inner city of Beijing in the Ming and Qing dynasties and the most majestic and tallest of the nine inner city gates. The imperial road was paved under the arch gate in the middle for the emperor to perform rituals in Beijing’s southern suburbs or travel. Today it is open to the public as a museum.。

Form

The Zhengyangmen Gate Tower has a width of seven bays and a depth of three bays, surrounded by a corridor. The gate tower is covered with a three-layered, double-eave gable-and-hip roof of gray round tiles trimmed with green glazed edges.
