The Bell Tower was an urban management facility telling time during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Inside the tower is a bronze bell cast during the Yongle reign (1403-1424) of the Ming dynasty. The bell is hung from an octagonal frame.
The Bell Tower is a brick-and-stone structure. The roof of first level is open to connect the upper floor to enhance the acoustic effect of the bell. The tower is 3 bays wide and deep and covered with a double-eave gable-and-hip roof of black glazed tiles (the black color symbolizes the north in Chinese culture) , with green glazed tiles on the ridges and eave edges
