The Distant Kin Temple was where the spirit tablets of the distant imperial ancestors were enshrined. According to the patriarchal clan tradition of keeping only limited ancestors' tablets in the Resting Hall, the tablets of distant ancestors no longer enshrined in the Resting Hall were moved to the Distant Kin Temple.
North of the Resting Hall is the Distant Kin Temple in a separate courtyard behind a red wall to show respect for the object of worship, differentiating with that of the Resting Hall. The architectural designs of these two buildings are similar.
